Question to Aussie Ladys-Birth control in OZ?

Hi, I am a german backpacker and haven't been on the pill yet (but already had an exam in Germany at at gyn) I met my boyfriend here and would like to get the pill now. He said I just have to visit any GP and get a prescription and get it...is that all?!?! In Germany you have to visit a specialist thats why I wonder...Any ideas how much it would cost me (seeing the doctor and the pill) My insurance won't pay, because this is just for illness and emergency..
